Enriching Outdoor Heritage Experiences

I conceived and designed an interactive outdoor display for the Mill at Angelsea Abbey, a National Trust property. This project was part of a broader design initiative working across various Trust programmes and heritage sites. The Mill, which is closed at certain times, required an engaging experience for visitors during those periods.
To understand the spirit of the location and its heritage value, I visited the site and immersed myself in the process of the Mill’s operation. The flowing water, machinery, and the product it created for the community provided the foundation for a compelling narrative. This story, based on the outdoor construction of the Mill, guided the design of the interactive display.
The final result offers playful, tactile, and multimedia learning opportunities, bringing the history and atmosphere of the Mill to life for visitors.
In a separate project at the National Trust’s Attingham Park, I worked on signage design to improve wayfinding and visitor engagement. The 18th-century mansion and estate required signage that balanced clear wayfinding with visuals that connected the property’s present-day features to its rich history.
Given the substantial amount of text to work with, I developed readable and visually engaging signage that informed, inspired, and encouraged visitors to connect with the stories of the estate while adhering to the Trust’s brand guidelines.
This work contributed to the Trust’s overall mission to enhance visitor experience, foster learning, and preserve heritage in an engaging and thoughtful manner.
